Current Issues

Nearly every week, the staff at the Valley Conservation Council fields urgent requests for help throughout the greater Shenandoah Valley region.

Currently, the staff is protecting land and water via conservation easements; giving workshops, conferences, and presentations; providing recommendations to regional and state policymakers; and working to protect iconic landmarks such as Natural Bridge. All of this is in addition to our on-going work on programs and initiatives that are funded through grants, sponsorships, and benefactors.

We now face a number of unfunded but pressing issues, however, either proposed or already underway, in our service area. Examples include a massive natural gas pipeline, an intrusive upgrade in a major electric transmission line, industrial mega-sites, a wind turbine array, highway expansions, and the loss of productive farmland and historic structures due to short-sighted planning.

Your generous support of VCC’s mission-driven efforts is a direct investment in continuing and expanding this important work as stewards of the Valley’s incomparable resources.
