Where We Work
Valley Conservation Council’s service area includes 11 counties in northwest Virginia: from Frederick County south to Botetourt County, from the Allegheny Mountains to the Blue Ridge, from the Potomac River in the north to the James River in the south.
That’s nearly 4 million acres of forests and wetlands, fields and farms, and springs and rivers along with thriving communities. Our region encompasses the Shenandoah Valley, the Upper James River, and the Alleghany Highlands.
Since 1990, the year that VCC was founded, almost 160,000 acres of private land have been protected by conservation easements in these 11 counties through the efforts of pro-active landowners working with VCC and its numerous partners.
