An Accident of Geography: A Short Course on America’s Legendary Shenandoah Valley in Three Parts (20 October, 27 October, and 3 November 2015)
Instructor: H. Bruce Rinker, Ph.D., Executive Director, Valley Conservation Council
Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, sometimes called “the Breadbasket of the South,” is legendary for its natural resources, cultural heritage, and agricultural vitality. Presentations, discussions, and readings will be important components of this short course.
Required Materials: The instructor will provide short articles and other reading materials for class participants.
Suggested Reading: E.O. Wilson’s The Creation: An Appeal to Save Life on Earth (2006) and Paul Bogart’s The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light (2013).
