Lily Bose

Land Protection Specialist

Lily Bose joined VCC in 2020 as a Stewardship and Mapping Intern and was hired full-time in 2022 as a Land Protection Specialist. She is originally from Richmond, VA but has spent the last four years in the valley as an undergraduate student at James Madison University. In 2022, Lily earned her B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Ecology & Environmental Biology, along with minors in Environmental Science and Art. During her time in the JMU Biology department, Lily was involved in undergraduate research studying the song and nesting success of the Gray Catbird. During the summer of 2021, she served as a Field Technician for her lab and collected data for her senior project. This culminated in her giving a talk on her research at the 2022 JMU Biosymposium, detailing how she used GIS to determine catbird nests closer to roads had higher chances of survival. She also was a teaching assistant for Ornithology and was granted the 2022 Excellence in Teaching in Biology Award by the JMU Biology Department for her work helping students in the course.

Lily is excited to continue working with VCC and landowners to protect the natural and cultural resources of the beautiful Shenandoah valley. Out of the office, you can find her taking photographs, birdwatching, and supporting independent music.
