Taylor Evans

Director of Land Protection

Taylor Evans joined VCC in 2021 and currently serves as Director of Land Protection. He moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 2009 to attend James Madison University and immediately fell in love with the area’s rich natural history. Taylor graduated from James Madison University in 2013 with a B.S. in Ecology and Environmental Biology, and again in 2021 with a Masters in Biology. During his studies he has lead a research project on forest succession in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests after eastern hemlock removal. In his professional life, Taylor has worked on small farms, co-managed a small herd of dairy cows, and assisted non-profit programming from Harrisonburg to New England. He has also completed research projects with The American Chestnut Foundation in an effort to re-introduce this important species back to its historical range.

Taylor is passionate about the natural, cultural, and historic character of the Shenandoah Valley and is proud to serve as a part of VCC in stewarding this region. When not in the office, you can find Taylor and his wife taking the long way home while out biking, hiking, rock climbing, and foraging up and down the Valley.
