When was the last time you volunteered?

Nearly 63 million people in the United States volunteered in 2014. That’s about 25% of the population, or about 1 in every 4 people, with a median of 50 hours donated during the year.

Volunteering is a great way to get to know others and make friends, to develop new skills, to learn about complex issues, to garner new professional contacts, to spend time outdoors, or even to shake up your routine.

It’s also one of the best ways to make a difference in your community. It’s a beneficial support for your target organization, too, helping to offset its costs.

The Valley Conservation Council seeks volunteers with commitment to help with its mission-driven programs and day-to-day activities: volunteers willing to devote their time, talents, and ideas to our conservation nonprofit.

Be a digital volunteer. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Help promote VCC in your social media platforms. Assist VCC with peer-funding opportunities.

Be an event volunteer. Help manage parking. Set up tables and chairs. Meet and greet our guests. Assist with refreshments. Put up signage. Photograph the event.

Be a program volunteer. Help create powerpoints and signage. Take photographs and record testimonials. Conduct program evaluations. Assist with conservation monitoring.

Be an ambassador volunteer. Help link VCC to potential corporate sponsors and members. Reach out to nontraditional audiences in the community at-large to build our membership base. Distribute informational flyers and run general exhibits.

Be an office volunteer. Answer telephones, greet visitors, and lend a hand with general correspondence. Help organize office files. Assist with regular updates on Facebook and VCC website. Write short articles and attend important community meetings. Help with minor maintenance and housekeeping.

Be a volunteer. Make a difference. Contact us at 540.886.3541 to add your name to our list of at-the-ready helpers! And, when you call, also let us know if you have additional skills and abilities that may help VCC fulfill its mission.
